Updated: Nov 8, 2022

After many months of writing and planning my first EP is now available online. "Songs of the Night Rose" , by Chris Luther is available for purchase or streaming on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Deezer, iHeartRadio, YouTube, GooglePlay, Amazon, Anghami, MediaNet, Instagram/Facebook, ClaroMusica, KKBox, Napster, Pandora, Saavn, , Tidal, and TikTok. All of the songs were written between 2017 and 2019 while studying gypsy jazz guitar, and french composers.

In the summer of 2016, I traveled to Nice, France with my parents for a week long vacation. I brought my guitar, and played on the Promenade des Anglais, as well as La Cave Dalpozzo, and the local jazz jam. This trip had a significant impact on me as a performer. In June of 2017, I attended a gypsy jazz guitar seminar at Smith College in M.A. called Django In June. The classes where focused on the style of Django Reinhardt, and the instructors were professional gypsy jazz guitar players. While I studied and practiced this style of music I started piecing together ideas of possible tunes.

The inspiration for this album came quickly. Overall the emotion of the album is a bit of love, with a bit of mystery. The music also has some classical connotations, probably because I have been listening to a great amount of classical music lately. The music has a picturesque feel to it. While these songs surfaced, I kept picturing a medieval banquet, or gathering with people dancing around a fire. Consequently, many of the songs are tunes you can dance too.

This EP is a collection of six songs that might go on a full length album. I wrote out all the parts, and recorded them in my home studio. The first two songs are waltzes which came about while I was also studying a number of French writers including F. Deguelt/ J.P. Mottier, M. Peguri/ J. Peyronnin, V. Guerino. The third song is a kind of gypsy bolero, for dancing. There are also two swing songs and a Turkish reggae sounding tune. Essentially, "Songs of the Night Rose" is a collection of songs you can dance to.

I performed and recorded all of the parts in my home studio. This EP is a sample of what a full length album my sound like.

I would like to thank my parents for their support and patience. I especially want to thank Eric Williams for doing an exceptional job mixing and mastering the recordings, and Gena Riley for all of her help with the logistics of publishing , songwriting and mental fortitude. Last but not least I would like to give a huge thank to Alessandro Giambra for using his skills in painting a beautiful cover. I truly enjoyed working on this project and I am happy to share it with you. Thank you for listening!
